Agrobacterium based vectors have been successfully employed to transfer genes into number of dicotyledonous plants and a few grain legumes (De Kathen and Jacobsen 1990, Lulsdorf et al. 1991). One of the prerequisites for successful gene transfer to plants is the availability of a suitable protocol for transformation which is compatible with in vitro plant regeneration methods of the target plant species.
