Multiple shoots were obtained from dormant axillary buds excised from the crown of pineapple and grown on MS medium supplemented with different combinations and concentrations of NAA, IBA and Kn. The highest number of shoots per explant was obtained from culture grown on medium containing 9.5 μM/1 NAA, 9.5 μM/1 IBA and 9.5 μM/1 Kn. In vitro regenerated shoots produced roots when they were cultured in half-strength MS medium with low concentration of NAA and IBA. The highest number of roots per plant was obtained when the shoots were grown on medium with 1.0 μM/1 NAA and 2.0 μM/1 IBA. The regenerated plantlets were successfully established in plastic pots containing soil, sand and cowdung in 1: 1: 1 ratio.
