When in vitro grown clusters of regenerating plantlets of banana (Musa sapientum var. Sagar) were cultured in MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/1 BAP + 2.0 mg/1 IAA + 5.0 mg/1 Kn instead of proliferating into healthy plantlets, the clustures were transformed into tuber like structures (TLS). In order to preserve the germplasm, these TLS could be multiplied and maintained in the same medium. Theses TLS could be induced to produce shoots by altering the hormonal combination in the same medium where Kn has the key role.
