The callus from mature caryopsis of two cultivars of finger millet proliferated on MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D and 0.5, 1,2,3,4, 5mM of hydroxy proline (hyp). The growth rate at mM was normal. Increased levels, from to 2-5 mM lead to a decrease in the growth and beyond 5 mM, drastic inhibition of callus growth was observed. Plants regenerated from the hyp tolerant callus.
