Callus induction and plant regeneration ability have been studied in Solanum nigrum L. from various explants namely, shoot tip, stem, leaf and root segments. Best regenerating callus induction was observed when the leaf segments were cultured on MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/1 NAA and 2.0 mg/1 BAP. Maximum numbers of shoots were obtained from leaf segment derived callus on MS medium containing 4.0 mg/1 BAP. Healthy roots were developed within 6-8 days when regenerated shoots were transferred to MS basal medium with 0.5 mg/1 IBA. Regenerated plantlets were successfully transferred to the field.
