Multiple shoot regeneration directly from the explant and via callus in lentil (Lens culinaris Medik) was achieved in MS medium containing 0.5 mg/1 BAP + 0.5 mg/1 Kn + 0.2 mg/1 NAA + 100 mg/1 CH and MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/1 BAP + 0.5 mg/1 Kn, respectively. Root induction in the in vitro regenerated shoots were possible only when the base of the shoots was treated with a high concentration of IBA (1.0 mg/1 ml) for a short period and finally transferred to MS medium supplemented with 10.0 mg/1 IBA. The development of the root was followed with the help of histological observations.
