A procedure for adventitious shoot regeneration from hypocotyls explants of Aegel marmelos using benzyladenine (BA) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) is described. Excised hypocotyls segments from seedlings grown on hormone-free MS medium and 0.8% agar were used. When the medium contained 1.5 mg/1 BA and 0.2 mg/1 IAA, 79% of the explants produced shoots. The number of shoot regenerants from hypocotyls excised from 4-5-week-old-seedlings was greater than those older than five weeks. Regenerated shoots were cultured on MS medium containing 0.1 mg/1 BA and they rooted on half strength MS medium containing 1.0 mg/1 indole-3-butyric acid (IBA).
