Efficient Regeneration of Plants from Leaf base Derived Callus in Sugarcane

Abastract

Regeneration of plants was achieved in sugarcane through leaf base derived callus and organogenesis. In modified MS medium containing 3-4 mg/1 of 2, 4-D highest percentage of callus was obtained in all the varieties while in the same medium with 5 mg/IAA + 2 mg/1 Kn differentiation of calli into shoots was the best. The same medium supplemented with 5 mg/1 of NAA in combination with 50 and 70 g/1 of sucrose was found best for rooting in all the varieties tested.
