Callus culture of three local varieties, namely DA-1. DG-2 and Acc. No. 12 of Arachis hypogaea L. was established from different explants viz epicotyl, hypocotyl and cotyledonary nodal segments in MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/1 2, 4-D + 0.5 mg/1 kinetin. Shoot differentiated from the callus of epicotyl and hypocotyl explants when MS medium was supplemented with 1.o mg/1 each of BAP and NAA. A good number of multiple shoots regenerated without the intervention of callus from the cotyledonary nodal segment, cotyledon and shoot tip explants in MS medium containing 1.0 mg/1 BAP + 1.0/2.0 mg/1 IAA. Regenerated shoots developed root when they were transferred to half the strength of the MS medium with 0.2 mg/1 IBA.
