Bulb-scales excised from bulb product somatic embryos directly without callus formation when cultured on MS basal medium supplemented with either NAA/BAP or BAP alone. The somatic embryos resembling water droplets, were transparent at the initial stage became opaque and developed into plantlets after passing a long dormant phase. The significance of development of non-zygotic embryos vis-?-vis in vitro cloning is discussed.
