Budbreaking response in nodal explants of Pleomele reflexa Lam. cv. Variegata was observed after 16 days of in vitro incubation. These explants when cultured in half strength of MS basal medium with 0.05 mg/l BA and 2.0 mg/l NAA induced seven - eight buds. A tenfold increase in BA concentration 0.5 mg/l caused elongation of shoot buds. Induction of roots was also observed on the same medium. However, the rooted shoots were transferred to hormone free MS basal medium for root proliferation. Plantlets were successfully transferred to small earthern pots after a short period of acclimatization. On an average eight plantlets could be regenerated from a single nodal explant during 90 days of culture.
