Cotyledonary ad hypocotyls segments of eggplant var. Kajla were cultured on MS media with or without 2,4-D. Direct shoot organogenesis from hypocotyls explant was observed in the treatment without 2,4-D. The highest number of embryoids per explants was produced by hypocotyls explants in 0.5 mg/1 2,4-D supplemented MS medium. The percentage of embryos developing into plantlets was better in hypocotyls derived calli on MS fortified with 0.5 and 1.0 mg/1 2,4-D. Plantlets with well developed shoots and were successfully transferred to soil.
