Rapid proliferation of axillary buds of Vitis vinifera cv. list?n negro has been achieved on a modified MS medium (MS + 400 mg/1 NH4NO3 + 900 mg/1 KNO3) containing 6-benzylaminopurine (2 or 4 ?M BAP) and naphthaleneacetic acid (0.5 ?M NAA). Shoots were induced to root on half-strength modified MS [0.5 ? (MS + 400 mg/1 NH4NO3 + 900 mg/1 KNO3)] culture medium supplemented with 2.0 ?M of NAA, although a significant increase in the number and length of roots and fresh weight of them was obtained when shoots were cultured for the first three days in the dark followed by 16 h light photoperiod and 23 ?E / m2s photosynthetic active radiation.
