A rapid one step procedure has been developed for inducing direct shoot organogenesis in cultures of Averrhoa carambola L. development of shoot buds occurred within four weeks of culture from intact seedlings raised on MS medium supplemented with BA (2.0 mg/1) was found to be the optimum. Addition of o.2 mg/1 IAA further increased shoot proliferation efficiency. Shoot buds originated from regions adjacent to the bases of cotyledonas and cotyleonary axils. Regenerated shoots developed into whole plants on half-strength MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/1 IBA.
