Callus cultures of nucellar tissue excised from fertilized ovules of immature fruits of Azadirachta indica were obtained in MS medium containing 2.5-5.0 ?M benzyladenine (BA) and 5.0-20.0 ?M naphthalene acetic acid (NAA). Compact nodular calli, upon transfer to media containing 5.0-20.0 ?M BA and 1.0-5.0 ?M NAA, produced adventitious shoots. Isolated shoots grown in the medium with 0.5 ?M gibberellic acid and 0.1 ?M BA elongated into healthy shoots. Rooting of in vitro regenerated shoots was obtained in half-strength of MS fortified with 5.0 ?M indole-3-butyric acid (IBA). The regenerants were transferred successfully to soil after acclimatization with 70% survival.
