MS medium supplemented with BAP (0.5 mg/1) was found optimum for shoot proliferation in carnation cv. Scania. Addition of NAA or BAP supplemented medium enhanced shoot elongation. High BAP level caused vitrification of shoots. Vitrified shoots reverted to normal when transferred to hormone free MS medium. Half strength MS medium containing IBA (0.5 mg/1) was found most suitable for rooting of in vitro raised shoots. Plants showed very high percentage of survival when hardened under high relative humidity for three weeks.
