Shoot tip and leteral bud explants of Bougainvillea buttiana var. Mrs. Butt when cultured on MS medium with 1.0 mg/1 BAP and 0.2 mg/1 NAA multiple shoot buds were formed. When the regenerated shoots were excised and subcultured individually in the same nutrient medium they produced multiple shoots with an average of 12 shoots per transfer. For rooting, the shoots were excised from the culture flask and implanted individually on root induction medium containing half strength of MS salts supplemented with 1.0 mg/1 each of IBA and NAA. Within four weeks of transfer 100% rooting was achieved on this medium. They were transferred to a tray containing soil and compost and covered by polyethelene sheet. After two weeks they were transplanted individually in the small clay-pots and kept in open place with indirect sunlight where 75% of the plantlets survived.
