Roots of axenically germinated seedlings and nursery plants were cultured in MS media supplemented with lower concentration of BAP alone. Direct coulogenesis, in common parlance, regeneration of shoots occurred in 0.1 mg/1 BAP. Augmentation of this hormonal concentration or of other growth regulators restricted the regeneration potential. The regenerated shoots were multiplied in MS soild, semi-soild and liquid media. But MS semi-solid medium suppliemented with 1.0 mg/1 BAP + 1.0 mg/1 IBA exhibited the highest rate of shoot proliferation. The maximum number of multiple shoots per explant was 12-18 achieved within 30-35 days. Rhizogenesis or root development was brought about in half strength MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/1 IBA, 0.5 mg/1 IBA + 0.5 mg/1 NAA and 2.0 mg/1 IBA
