Callus cultures were initiated from the nodal stem of Philodendron erubescens cv. Pink Prince, a popular indoor decorative plant on MS medium supplemented with various growth regulators. Among auxins 2,4-D was found effective when used alone, while a combination of IAA and BAP yielded profuse fast growing callus. Incorporation of NAA with BAP exhibited shoot bud regeneration after 6-7 weeks. Liquid medium containing BAP and casein hydrolysate showed maximum plant regeneration. A significant number of plantlets have been found chlorophyll-variants which may probably be due to disruption of chimera or variation occurring during culture. The regenerants were rooted ex vitro. All plants were transferred to soil where only the green ones grew to maturity.
