Nodal segments and shoot apices from four genotypes of chickpea were induced to from multiple shoots on MS and B5 media with different combinations of phytohormones. Significant variation was observed among the treatments. MS medium was found to be superior to B5. BA in combination with NAA or IAA was suitable for multiple shoot formation. Explants from 10-day-old seedlings were the most responsive to shoot induction. The variety ?Nabin? yielded the maximum number of shoots per explant. Yield from shoot apices was greater than from nodal explants. The protocol can be used for mass propagation of rare hybrids and cryopreservation of Cicer germplasm.
