For in vitro shoot regeneration, shoot tips, phyllodes, nodes, internodes and roots of Asparagus asparagoides were used as explants. The requirements for induction of callus varied in different explants in relation to the intensity of light, combinations of NAA and Kn, 2, 4-D and 2ip, 2, 4-D and BAP supplements in the basal medium. The amount of BAP or 6-benzylamino-9-[2tetrahydropyranyl] 9H purine (BPA), L-arginine, low level of NAA in the medium and the intensity of light required for the induction of shoots from callus of different explant sources, was found to vary. However, roots could be induced from individual shoots irrespective of explant source in presence of auxin conjugates IAA-L-aspartic acid.
