Pre-treated and cultured anthers containing uninucleate microspores of eight wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) varieties showed callus formation in three out of four induction media. Regeneration potentials of the varieties were estimated on the basis of anthers response, embryo induction, embryo regeneration and production of green and albino plants. Embryos were obtained from only three of eight genotypes on media containing high levels of specific amino acids. Barkat produced embryos and green plantlets at the highest frequency followed by Kanchan and Pavon 76. All the responding genotypes also produced albino plants in addition to the green ones. The cold pretreatment for three-five days generated the highest frequency of embryos and green plantlets. All the responding genotypes showed better treatment was most effective and significantly different from other treatments and the control.
