Terminal floral buds were collected from field-grown plants after they produced all possible bunches of banana. The rounded growing points of the floral apices were isolated and cultured on MS medium containing different concentrations and combinations of cytokinin, auxin and 15% CW for proliferation of multiple shoots. Among the explants those cultured with 2.0 mg/1 BA + 1.0 mg/1 Kn + 1.0 mg/1 IAA + 15% CW showed the best performance on shoot proliferation. Rooting of the in vitro regenerated shoots was obtained in half strength of MS medium fortified with 0.1 mg/1 NAA, IBA or IAA. Rooted plantlets were transferred successfully to soil after acclimatization with 95% survival.
