In vitro culture of rescued embryos has been employed to obtain hybrid between a cultivated (Gossypium arboreum L.) and wild species (G. anomalum Wawra and Peyr) of cotton. Premature shedding of cross pollinated bools was prevented by the application of solution of naphthalene acetic acid (100 mg/1) and gibberellic acid (50 mg/1)for five days after pollination (DAP). The hybrid embryos (15 DAP) cultured on modified Murashige and Skoog?s medium supplemented with growth regulators developed into plants. The hybrids resembled more to the wild species. Several desirable recombinants with longer fibre, more ginning outurn, higher seed weight and bacterial blight resistance were obtained in BC2S2 generation.
