Clonal propagation of banana was achieved from shoot tip explants isolated from suckers of elite plants. Six to seven micro-shoots were produced from the basal lateral sides of the main shoot tip, when cultured on modified MS medium supplemented with 6-benzyladenine (BA). Induction of roots was achieved on micro-shoots when cultured on MS medium supplemented with indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). The well developed plantlets were hardened without greenhouse facilities for their establishment in the field. On an average 92% of the plantlets survived hardening with the protocol developed.
