Nodal segments of about three-month-old Erythrina variegata was found to be best for multiple shoot induction in MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/1 BAP. The experiment on the rooting of E. variegata showed that auxin was necessary for rooting. Shoots grown with high concentrations of IBA (50 mg/1) for a short time (pulse) displayed better rooting ability than shoots grown in continuous low when exposed to a combination of IBA and BAP that indicated BAP was inhibitory to rooting. The in vitro grown E. variegata plantlets required two weeks to adopt themselves to the glasshouse environment.
