A trial on the performance of tissue culture (TC) derived plantlets against conventional (CON) suckers of champa banana (Musa sapientum) was conducted at the fruit farm of Horticulture Research Centre (HRC) of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) during the period from April, 1996 to May, 1997. The tissue cultured plants and conventional sword suckers were 30-45 and 45-60 cm in height, respectively during planting in the field on 2 April, 1996. Plants of both types flowered in the month of November-December, 1996 and the fruits are harvested in April-May, 1997. The results were found statistically insignificant in all the parameters of growth, shooting, harvesting and yield. Fruit characteristics were also insignificant except the edible portion (Edible portion of TC banana was 73.13% and normal banana was 76.69%). Numerically, in most of the parameters the TC plants performed better than the control.
